This highlights my problem with supercar makers like Ferrari. I love the 458, but I think the Speciale model should be the only model. The standard base Ferrari. We all knew the Speciale (or Scuderia or something) was coming, so when I see the 458 I see a car that could have been better.

I need to see the Speciale without the stripes to be sure. But for now, yes, its cleaner looks do make the car look better.

It's not just the exotics.

Same thing is happening with all performance cars. You have to buy the special edition to get the full performance out of the chassis.

Special editions will become more and more common. In the old days they were rare and truly special. Now they are common and sell in high numbers.

I know. I can understand trim levels, but this is Ferrari. Every fucking Ferrari should be "Speciale", it's the quintessential dream car. It shouldn't be compromised in any way.

The 288 GTO was the last special edition that was truly special. Taking a 308 and turbo charging it and making other mods to make it bat shit crazy was A OK with me.

I agree, the GTos are truly great Ferraris. I just think the "normal" supercars are completely ruined by these special editions. I think they can make specials of course, but they need to be truly insane. This Speciale should have been the normal 458, and the higher editions should be racecars with plates with less than 100 built.
